I'm saving seed from the ugly pumpkin, Galeux d'Eysines. As you can see in the picture, I have washed the seed in a sieve, then dried it with paper towels (it's really slippery stuff) and now I am air-drying it before putting it in seed packets.
I want to keep this pumpkin going in my garden, but there is heaps more seed than I can use, so if you would like some too just send a stamped, self-addressed envelope to P.O. Box 46, Diamond Harbour 8941 and I will send you back at least six seeds (more if I have more, depending on demand). Then check the blog in late July for sowing instructions, if you have never grown pumpkins from seed before.
Meanwhile, while you struggle with this year's pumpkin surplus, and before you get tired of waiting for me to provide my best pumpkin recipes, may I recommend you nip over to Hazel-Dene, where Hazel has put up a whole heap of yummy pumpkin recipes.
Galeux d'Eysines is on the right; Queensland Blue on the left.
Hi Christine I will be sending in for some seeds, the kids will really enjoy growing these, and who knows it might even inspire them to eat their veg.
ReplyDeleteHi Christine, Can we eat the flowers as we do with the zuchinni's? I thought the plant was a "male" zuchinni and just noticed that a have a very nice size prickeled - nubby - pumpkin??? Maybe the birds dropped the seed?
ReplyDeleteThank you in advance for the information.
Melinda
Hi Melinda,
ReplyDeleteI don't see why not - I found what looks like a great recipe using either kind of flowers at
